Coronavirus alert in the world
Matthew Binnicker, director of clinical virology at the Mayo Clinic, says preliminary findings point to a rapid spread of BA 2.75.
Underlining the need for more studies on the subject, the scientist says, ‘We have not yet been able to determine whether it will leave BA.5 behind.’
According to the news in the British Daily Mail newspaper, virologists are concerned that the subvariant could fuel a new wave of cases worldwide.
“The eight additional mutations in BA.2.75 are extremely remarkable,” said molecular biologist Ulrich Elling, who warned that the subvariant could evade immunity.
WHO’S FIRST STATEMENT FOR BA 2.75
The expected statement from the World Health Organization (WHO) came for BA 2.75, which was released in India and spread to at least 10 countries.
Stating that they are waiting for detailed data about the sub-variant in question, the organization announced that BA 2.75 is being watched closely.
According to WHO, there has been a 30 percent increase in corona cases around the world in the last two weeks.
Saying that they have detected a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant of the virus that can escape vaccines in the past weeks, Uğur Şahin has called on the authorities to speed up the approval process for the vaccine they have created according to the sub-variant in order to prevent a new wave while the coronavirus restrictions are lifted around the world.
Stating that it may take up to three months for new vaccines to go into mass production, Şahin said, “It would be beneficial to have the opportunity to adapt the vaccine according to the latest data without the need for additional clinical trials.”
Making statements to the British Financial Times newspaper, Şahin emphasized that clinical studies will not be different from those that have been done so far, and said that they will “change a few amino acids of the spike protein”.
