COVID-19 cases on the rise in the world for 5 weeks
According to the WHO report, coronavirus cases in the world have been on the rise for the last 5 weeks, but there has been no significant increase in virus-related deaths.
According to the weekly report published by the World Health Organization (WHO), 5.7 million COVID-19 cases were detected worldwide last week, while the number of cases increased by 6 percent compared to the previous week.
The number of cases, which decreased as of March 2022, started to increase again as of the second half of June. The increase is estimated to be due to the increasing prevalence of the highly contagious BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants of the Omicron variant in the world.
On the other hand, WHO noted that despite the increase in cases, there was no significant increase in virus-related deaths. While 9,800 deaths were recorded worldwide last week, the figure did not change compared to the previous week.
