Will there be a loss of smell after nose surgery?
Temporary odor problems may occur after rhinoplasty. The olfactory cells are close to the area of the nasal arch. Edema or damage to the mucous membrane that provides the smell while lowering the nose belt by cutting or rasping may cause problems in smelling. In extremely large arched noses, the mucous membrane may be compressed in a narrow area while the nose is reduced. When the nose is lowered, the mucous membrane getting stuck in a narrow area or getting stuck can cause problems with smell.
